Public and media opinion of CCTV has been mixed over the years. It has received positive opinion following the London bombings and the speedy circulation of images of suspects. Conversely some dreadful images are regularly circulated that demonstrate that many systems are of a very poor quality.

Work is currently underway nationally to develop meaningful standards that will hopefully drive up the quality of CCTV. It is still essential that individual Operational Requirements are defined by system users to allow security installers to provide appropriate specifications and quotations.

We believe that the quality of CCTV can be improved significantly and not necessarily by spending large amounts of money.
